Round, rectangle, or square?
How big?

Check out our top tips below to find the best dining table size and shape to suit your home.

GET OUT THE MEASURING TAPE

Your dining table has to fit your dining area but a dining table is a deceptively large piece of furniture and you need to account for space around it, too. Make sure when measuring, you leave enough room surrounding the table to comfortably walk around and get in and out of the seats.

TABLE SHAPE

ROUND
These are great options for small spaces - both rectangular or square. Round tables fit best in tight spaces and because they have no corners you can usually fit more people around them. Round pedestal tables are a great option as they provide more legroom.

RECTANGLE
Rectangle tables work best in a long narrow room and are still the top seller due to the amount of seating they provide. They can be tricky to fit into a tighter space however, by simply using long benches instead of chairs, you can push them under the table when not in use to create more space.

SQUARE
Work best in a square room. They are perfect for when you only need to seat a group of four or less, however, to cater for occasions when you have more guests, it may be best to opt for a table that you can expand with extensions.

BONUS TIP!

When choosing dining chairs ask yourself...how long will you sit at the table?
For those who like to work the night away in a dining chair, upholstered options can make the experience a lot more comfortable. Although there are more shapes and materials available in non-upholstered chairs, if you’re going to be sitting for a long time, comfort is most likely more important than style.
